Dark Souls Gaping Dragon sculpture by futantshadow Dark Souls Gaping Dragon sculpture by futantshadow
The Gaping Dragon sculpture I made for Namco Bandai. 3 foot wide wingspan. 150ish teeth. Took about 6 weeks to build. Finished in in late sept 2011. Seen on ign.com's live broadcast of Dark Souls on sept 30th 2011. Made from magic sculpt and painted in acrylics.

Hmm, I'm not sure I'd display that in the house. its an amazing sculpt, no doubt.

Just, vagina dragon, :shudder:

Might scare off burglars though.

Any other dragons or drakes in the works, Futantshadow?

currently no, they take forever to make and are really expensive, so i likely won't make any unless someone commissions ones.

Holy Mackerel that is cool. That's pretty darn detailed and neat looking for Magic Sculpt. I gotta try that.

The tattered bits on the wings are a lovely touch. The paint texturing/scales and THE TEETH. My god.

If only every RPG boss were so uniquely done. A lot of love clearly went into this. How delicate is magic sculpt, and where do you get it?

Hey man, thanks so much. Magic Sculpt dries to about as hard as a rock- so it's a bit brittle on the thin parts. I use wires for armature where ever I can, plus aluminum foil and masking tape to build up some of the thick structures. Wet magic sculpt also sticks to dry magic sculpt, so you can build in layers (like when creating the sets of teeth, I had to do it in about 4 stages, from inner to outer). I order it from taxidermy.com, and I get 2 sets of 20 lb kits at a time (one set of 20 lbs can easily last me a year). It's my favorite clay, and so easy to work with.

Hi, most of the dark souls statues that I made were for Namco Bandai, but I am working on a few more for an upcoming art show, and will be for sale. The large original pieces are a bit expensive. I also have been molding small busts and selling those for $25-55. Thanks so much!

Holy crap, again, that's awesome! You are a sculpting god. Also did you hear about Dark Souls going to PC? A German PC Magazine recently said something about it and showed off some new bosses.

Yea I heard but I haven't seen any pictures of the new bosses yet. I hope there is some awesome new stuff to sculpt! This dragon was suppose to have been given away at the IGN 24 hour event on sept 30th 2011, but they loved it too much so they didn't give it away (they gave away a black knight bust I made in studio instead). They are still indecisive on whether to give it away in the future. But they still have the quelaag, orenstien and smough also ;)

Ya, I wouldn't of gotten rid of it either, it's so awesome.

As for the new bosses, they revealed at least two apparently in the magazine, here's the imagines that I can really find. One is of what appears to be the head of a black dragon and the other, from what I've read, has been called 'The Guardian of the Tomb':

Pretty awesome; thanks for sharing! Not sure I like either yet for sculpting though; dragons are a pain in the ass and the wolf guy is just meh. I guess I prefer more humanoid characters with really cool armor or outfits :)

True but as for gameplay, can't wait to see what those bosses do. I also had a friend visit PAX, and this might be another boss that she saw there that Namco was showing off:

Now I'm not entirely sure it relates to Dark Souls but she said it does. Either way it does look pretty awesome. Reminds me of Quelaag except it is definitely different.

wow that's pretty crazy. would be awesome if it was in the new area. i'd be surprised though as namco doesn't really have the money to commission something this large. my friend said there were creatures like this in another game (maybe everquest?) that laid eggs and had baby spiders hatching out everywhere and attacking. maybe it's from that?

Don't know, I've only played Everquest once and it wasn't all that good to me. I don't think this would be in it, just due to the style of this. It might not be Dark Souls but if it is I'm thinking it's another one of the Chaos sisters.
