Personally I feel as if this iconic image of the Knight brought to his knees in exhaustion is the perfect illustration of DarkSouls. You've captured it all perfectly. Read your what's available and am looking forward to your eliteknight at a bonfire immensely! Love all your DarkSouls sculpts <3
this particular piece would be $1,000 + shipping if you were to commission me to make you one. I don't have a personal website yet but I am planning to soon; I do have a facebook art page- www.facebook.com/peternordstromoriginalstatues
Imagine my particularly pleasant surprise when I casually checked the source of a picture featuing these fantastic statues (despite not finding out about the contest until well after it was over), only to discover the personal dA page of the artist behind them! c:
Having since browsed and liked your facebook page, I wanted to take the chance to directly say how much I really appreciate the quality and variety of your work regardless of the source, and that I was actually curious as to what the Dark Souls statues themselves were made of once the molds were finalized.
Regardless, major kudos for that talent and I hope you see more pleasant exposure within the gaming industry (and just in general) in the near future~
Hey man! Thanks so much! I use magic sculpt and super sculpey to create the original statues, then make the mold and cast using smooth-on products (rebound 25 to make the mold, smooth-cast 320 to pour it).
I hope to continue making Dark Souls related statues as long as there are new games in the series and demand for artwork from them. I do get a lot of requests for characters from other video games, but I haven't had time to make them. It would be nice to branch out to other companies if Namco Bandai no longer has work for me, but so far, I am way too busy to attempt this.
Thank you very much for taking the time to get back to me and sharing some details about the creative process!
It's a testament to the quality of your painting abilities as much as your sculpting skills that I somehow had the idea in my head that they were made of metal instead of resin, but in hindsight that'd drive the production and sale prices through the roof if it were true. At least I'd be less afraid to handle them without worrying as much as I do with resin statues in general. x:
Anyway, although I definitely would love to see what else you're able to do with your exceptional talent besides material from Dark Souls (Berserk in particular comes to mind), your artistic style is a perfect match for such a moody setting and it's great that you're kept busy by such an international multimedia giant like NB! c:
No prob! Besides "dark" art, I like art that expresses a lot of emotion, so that's something I would look into doing more of after dark souls, although I would like to find ways to portray dark souls characters with more emotion.
I saw this, and it immediatley filled me with a scene from a book(in my head and yes the hero is nameless...for now).
"He fell to his knees, sword and shield dangling from loosened fingers, staring at the castle tower as it exploded. Stones and flaming debris plunged to the floor in a show of destruction. Tears streamed down his cheeks underneath his visor. The ruined tower's flaming pillar was a stark contrast to the black smoke pouring out of it. It cast a reddish tint to the whole sky. He wondered why he should fight anymore...there was no point. His family, and the prince and King he had sworn loyalty to were dead, killed by the mages of Shaldor in their endless lust for power and total domination..."
I ran out of steam, but that sculpture for some reason made me think of that type of image/scene in my mind. And I love this game. So hard, yet so rewarding.
It's not from a book. Not yet... I saw the sculpture and it created that scene in my mind for some reason...Even though I've played the game (and still haven't beaten it, and cry at times) I thought of a completely different story for that character...
