Thank you so much Pam! (LabyrinthCreations on deviantart) for the Daily Deviation of my Sculpture- Apocalypse Repainted. It was totally unexcepted yet completely appreciated!
I am definately in your debt.
I didn't really explain the materials used under the description of this Apocalypse Repainted because it was just a new photo of an piece I had originally made about a year ago and recently repainted. You can find older pics of it in my gallery called "Harbinger of the Apocalypse." It is made mainly from barbie doll pieces. I collected about 20 old barbie dolls from thrift stores, tore their arms, legs and heads off, then built a 3 and 1/2 foot tall figure out of them. The head and breasts are made from clay (magic sculpt and super sculpey). The hands are of old sissors (it is kind of dangerous, she stands in my living room, ready to slice anyone walking through!). I also used bolts, nails, and feathers (donated from a good friend of mine).
The "Harbinger of the Apocalypse" has several deeper meanings; many you can gather, but the word "harbinger" is like the bringer, or for-teller of future events. The Apocalypse is speculated to happen from several possible sources; such as meteor, volcano, earthquakes, etc. OR from our own demise, such as ruining the environment or with nuclear war. The "barbie doll" represents an unrealistic vision of what the perfect woman should look like. Yet these features and body shape is impossible. To tear apart ideal perfection is a metaphor for destroying what men are obsessed, confused, and full of greed and lust for. We, as a species, must learn to love the natural beauty of women, the human body, and all of nature in order to understand who we are, why we are here, and how to save the earth and humanity. Through destroying barbie dolls and creating a figure of death, blood, violence, pain; and yet also beauty and hope, I want to show that we must learn to accept all aspects of life, and only through understanding these things can we evolve and live together.
Again, thank you so much to Pam and everyone who has supported me, commented and favorited my pieces. It really means a lot to me, and gives me lots of inspiration to finish my new works. I am in the middle of several pieces, and I will post new pictures as soon as I can!
